Check this video out. Merlin Mann from 43 Folders presents at Google in their Tech Talks series. It deals with some interesting ideas around the handling and processing of email.
For some bizarre reason, I have a huge repository of every email I have received since 1999 and can search it really easily. However, that is something I really have not had to do enough to justify keeping the email.
One of the interesting ideas presented is to delete more of it as it comes in. Merlin suggests that we only store the really crucial stuff that you need to refer to in order to achieve something, then when that task is complete, delete it.
Watch the movie, it's worth an hour.
